BLOGGING: It's Tuesday. Where are you?

Reading takes us so many places. Yesterday I was talking to a student of mine from Sri Lanka and was able to tell him about a book I read, Reef, set during the civil war, and how beautiful Sri Lanka seemed. I knew a little about his country, and that helped make a connection.

Today, I am in Black Swan, England, circa 1982, and learning what it is like for a 13 year old boy to face puberty and the world, with the Falklands War as the backdrop. I am loving this book, as the narrator is very funny, in that way 13 year old boys can be, trying to fit in, and dealing with issues that are important to him, in the rough and tumble hierarchy of teenagers.

Where is reading taking you today?

  4. I'm in Hawaii! But don't get too excited, because I'm not surfing, or getting a tan or anything. No, in fact, I think soon I'll be headed for Moloka'i, where the leper colony is. I'm a little nervous!

  6. Raidergirl3, I think this is one of the most awesome new things I've seen in the blog world. Love it.

Today I'm locked in a tower with my mistress. It's been 147 days out of the 7 years her father has us we would be locked up. (Book of a Thousand Days)

I'm also traveling in a convoy of ships that are part of the 4th crusade. There is rumor that Pope is turning a blind eye to the Venetian Christian's imminent attack on another Christian city we will pass along the way. (Crossed)

  7. I'm invisible and self-conscious at a country house weekend in the 1930s. My hostess, Lady Montdore, is a dragon who asks personal questions, people don't even wait until I'm out of the room to talk about my wildly embarrassing mother, and I've just fallen in love with a very sophisticated Frenchman...reading Nancy Mitford's Love in a Cold Climate.

  10. I'm climbing a 300 foot tall giant redwood in northern California without any safety equipment whatsoever, but it's pretty incredible despite being terrifying (The Wild Trees)!

  11. sabine - I can't wait to read The Night Watch. I recently finished Atonement, so I'm already in that London war-zone feeling.
Your post was amazing, very nice. I'll have to stop by and look at your sketches more indepthly.

megan - I think the only way I'd climb a tree like that is in a book. Thank heavens for having the experience in a book, and for authors who can make you feel like you're there, even when your not.

  15. Oh, it's just wonderful! I'm in a completely different world where I have an animal daemon, sometimes I fly in hot air balloons, some of my friends are witches, bears, and scholars, and my *compass* always points me in the right direction. Sorry for the quick answer, but I must get back to saving the world! *grin*
